Mt. Timpanogos!

My sweet parents - Rod and Myrna Turner - I was able to stay with them while in Utah and had a wonderful visit!

It's been a long time since I've hiked to the top of Mt. Timpanogos in the backyard of where I grew up - American Fork Utah. Brigg and I hiked it on Friday July 18, 2008 - they must have changed the trail quite a bit because it was a much harder hike than it was 30 years ago when I did it last time! We had a great time and here are some of the photos:

The mountain from a side road in American Fork

We started out at 5:30 am and didn't need our head lamps but for 15 minutes. The moon was bright and we were blessed to see so many beautiful waterfalls like this one.

One of the longest snow fields we had to cross during the day.

Brigg and I have climbed Mt. Elinor in the Olympics many times but have never seen mountain goats. Well we hit the jackpot this time as about 50 were lazily grazing in the meadow!

Another waterfall, accentuated by the lush greenery.

A view of a long trail winding its way to the top of the mountain.

On top at last! I guess I must have been standing on one big rock OR after a long hike is Brigg just holding me up?

Our trip down was made a bit easier by sliding down the glacier - here is a view from the top before we began our great slide. We were so full of snow we were numb - it was great fun!

At the bottom of the glacier was beautiful Emerald Lake. What a great day we enjoyed.

Great pictures! I'm so glad you were able to hike it again and also to see some awesome mountain goats too :-) Looks like it was a beautiful day and a nice trip.

Love you!

Thanks so much again for the great trip tunie. That was the best hiking trip ever. I still feel bad about our poor decision to go straight up - but coming down the cliff was fun!!! Can't wait to do it again. But we'll have to do it in washington because there isn't much over here in PA. I'm sure there are some cool hikes - but no mountains over here. At least that I know about.
